I use Layers of acrylic paint tampered with sandpaper, gouache, colour pencil and photoshop to get them into a final digital format!
Inspirations: Inspiration comes from researching and developing new ideas. I search for inspiration from children’s picture books. Lauren Child is one of my long term favourites. Lane Smith is amazing! I love the work of Ken Kiff, Henri Matisse and Gustav Klimt. Tim Burton is one of the most inspiring film makers. I would say he has a great influence on my work. Walking around card or gift shops has always helped me. My own childhood memories help to motivate my ideas. I had a great childhood and think our childhood is essential to who we all are. If I could be a child again I would! Living in Cornwall has definitely inspired my work. If I hadn’t studied at Falmouth, my work would not be what it is. I like that thought.
Characteristics & Style of work: Imagination feeds my artwork above anything else. Then I guess I mix it with the inspiration and artistic skills I have accumulated over the years. I love developing my ideas from an initial brief or idea. Sketchbook work is the key to coming up with something fantastic. A simple few words is enough for me to get started! Practicing composition and colourwork are essential for creating a refreshing and delightful artwork.
Aims: My aim is to keep pushing my creativity and keep developing as an illustrator. I hope I can delight the young and the young at heart with my pictures. I want people to have their own thoughts and ideas about what my images bring to them! I would love to make my mark within the creative industry!
